Massage Therapy involves manual work on the soft tissues of the body. Tissues affected include skin, muscles, tissues that cover the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. The goal of working with these structures in a hands on way is to relieve and manage pain and stress in the body. Our massage therapists treat conditions related to overuse, tension, past injuries and chronic pain conditions. If you’re experiencing physical pain, chances are that massage therapy will help.
Are the massage therapists at the studio RMTs?
Yes, any of our practitioners that use the title “massage therapist” is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). Registered massage therapy does not cover every modality of bodywork, so some of our practitioners such as our Thai massage practitioner have specialized training but are not considered RMT’s.
Is massage therapy right for me?
Massage therapy is suitable at any age for most people. There are some times and conditions when it is not the right treatment and a therapist may refer you elsewhere. If we think that there is a better option for a condition, we will not hesitate to recommend other practitioners and modalities. Each therapist has a unique style and focus, so it’s OK to visit more than one therapist if you feel it’s necessary.

Will it hurt?
Massage can sometimes leave you feeling a bit sore, but it’s important to communicate with your therapist if the treatment is painful beyond reasonable tolerance. Your therapist will be happy to modify techniques to meet the unique needs of your body.
What can I expect at my first visit?
Your therapist will have you complete a confidential health questionnaire to help determine your needs. You will then discuss the details of what to expect during the session. You may chose how much to disrobe, but most clients prefer massage applied directly over bare skin. Your therapist will leave the room while you undress to your level of comfort and you will then cover yourself fully with a sheet. Only the are that the therapist is working on at a time will be uncovered and your modesty is maintained at all times. While the idea can be a bit uncomfortable for the first time. This is quickly overcome once the massage begins. Most people wonder why they didn’t come sooner!
Is massage therapy covered under health insurance?
Unfortunately, massage is not covered by OHIP, but most extended health plans include Massage therapy treatments in full or in part. Some will require a physician’s referral note. All services are paid by you at the time of the session and you submit your receipt directly to your company for reimbursement.
Many people who do not have insurance, appreciate the benefits of regular massage therapy and pay out of pocket. Your therapist can help you determine a frequency of visits to works within your health needs and budget.
